Deadline: October 30, 2016
Youth Inclusive Entrepreneurial Development Initiative for Employment (YIEDIE) is a multi-partner programme led by Global Communities Ghana and implemented by a consortium of five local partners. YIEDIE aims to increase employment and entrepreneurship in Ghana’s construction sector amongst disadvantaged youth aged 17 – 24. The five-year programme is currently being implemented in four of Ghana’s largest cities: Accra, Sekondi-Takoradi, Tema and Ashaiman, with Kumasi, the fifth city, joining in September, 2016.
One of the consortium partners is Youth Empowerment Synergy Ghana (YES-Ghana). YES-Ghana is the nation’s foremost and most extensive youth organisation. YES-Ghana is leading the mobilisation and recruitment of beneficiaries for the YIEDIE programme, designing and delivering a training programme on entrepreneurship, life skills, and financial literacy, and ensuring that youth representatives are integrated into all stages of the programme, in particular through the establishment of Youth Advisory Councils.
YES-Ghana has established Youth Advisory Councils in Accra and Sekondi-Takoradi, the first two implementing cities, and intends to replicate the process in Ashaiman, Tema and Kumasi.
Purpose of the Youth Advisory Councils (YACs)
YACs act as a bridge between the YIEDIE consortium and youth in the target group to ensure that the programme is youth-inclusive and responsive to the needs of young people.
The YACs serve as YIEDIE’s primary platform for meaningful youth engagement, and is facilitated by YES-Ghana.
Scope of Work
YACs act as a two-way communication channel between the YIEDIE consortium and young people, through which:
Each YAC will consist of 7 members (with a ratio of 4 males: 3 females):
4 X YIEDIE programme beneficiaries
3 X youth non-beneficiaries
To qualify for membership of a YAC, members should fulfil the following criteria:
Be between the ages of 17 and 24.
YAC Members are expected to serve one year terms from November 2016.
YAC members will attend 3 face-to-face meetings in a year.
YAC members will be available for occasional communication in between the 3 meetings via phone or email to consult with the YIEDIE consortium on aspects of the programme as and when required.
Membership of the YIEDIE YACs is entirely voluntary. However all transportation costs associated with attending the meetings will be covered by the programme.
